How do I repair/re-attach center console armrest lid?

When I bought the car I found out that the lid for the center console wasn't attached to the console at all. Upon inspection I noticed that the hinge attached to the lid was not damaged at all, but the screws were missing, and the holes for the screws inside the console look worn out and stripped or something. It doesn't look like there is anything for a screw to catch on to even if I got new ones. So, will new screws still work and actually hold the lid in place like it should be? if so where can I get the right screws for the console lid? or will I need to replace the console entirely, or the lid? or both? Any help with this would greatly be appreciated.
