Ok last night while driving home (it was wet out) my car rpm gauge started acting up, jumping from 1,000 rpms to 8,000 rpms and all in between. But the motor is not running at that high rpm, its running normal, even idles perfectly fine but the rpm gauge still is all over the place. Its spuddering a bit too when I'm driving (started when the rpm gauge started freaking out). Any suggestions on what it is? Please help. Ive left the battery unplugged for 10hours, did noting its still acting up. Need help fast this is my daily driver. Thanks

Havn't had the chance, I work 72hours a week and I live 40mins from the nearest town. I just had all the electrical replaced about a year ago, cost me 3grand, but I have had no issues in wet or snowy weather till last night. I checked all the fluids and everything is right where it should be at, so my only guess is electrical. I had to take today off work so i could drive to town and have it pluged in and post the code here if it would help

In your case instead of loosing a days pay might be cheaper to just buy a code reader they are pretty cheap these days.Yes codes would really help if there are any.Is your check engine light coming on?

I got it code checked only thing showing is random miss-fire and this issue happened right after the rpm issue, car run fine but when I'm holding speed or accelerating it miss fires, my guess is its getting to much air/fuel for the rpm it's really running at. Example; 60mph is 2300rpm normal but the rpm gauge is jumping all over so if its reading 6000rpm it's proubly giving air/fuel for 6000rpm rather that 2300rpm. But I don't know that's why I'm here =( even a quick temp fix would be great

Sounds like something got wet sounds like more like a ignition failure when under load its missfiring.So how often is the rpms miss reading too high?

Get a can of compressed air and disconnect the coil packs. Thoroughly dry the connectors (both sides) and apply a dielectric/waterproofing gel before reconnecting. This should rectify your issue. Have you had any service since the "electrical was replaced"? Are the plastic "skid plates" under the engine properly installed?

The rom gauge is always all over and never on, it was wet and is still rainin so I will try drying out the coil packs connectors and get something to put in them, I in town right now so I hope that will fix it, and yes I had all the electronics replaced 8 months back (al the sensors and main wirin harness and plug wires)

No serivce since the work done on electronics and all the wires have covers also, I checked them for corrosion

What about the plastic skid plates under the car? Are they all in place? If not, they can allow excess water up under the car which can these types of problems.

Also I would see if there is water build up where the coils go in?
