For all cylinders to be misfiring, low fuel pressure is one of the most common cause.

If the engine is running too cold, it would affect the performance. The thermostat shouldnever be removed. If there is any problem with overheating, you need to get it looked at.

I have a 2000 Model Honda Accord, each time I am driving it I observe while in motion it jerks when I try to accelerate. I met with my mechanic and he advised that I change the ignition which I have done but the problem still persist.

Coil, plugs, leads, fuel filter, bad fuel, any set fault codes in the system, not all codes set a check light, get a scan and check all items mentioned. These guides should help us fix it.

Based on the symptoms you're describing I think you may have an ignition system problem. I would look closely at the spark plug wires and the spark plugs. Are the wires original? A neat trick to see if you have a plug wire leaking spark externally is to spray a little salt water along the plug wires to the distributor cap while the engine is running. If one or more wires is leaking external you will see the spark jump to the salt water. Also pull out a spark plug to examine it. If you haven't changed your plugs in 30,000 miles you should replace them.

The car started jerking at 3000rpm a few months ago in August 2009 after an attendant topped of my gas tank and the check engine light came on. A scan at Autozone showed two codes, one for gas lid loose another DTC P1381. I had spark plugs, cables, & distributor cap replaced and the light went away. It came back again in Feb 2010 and the jerking started again intermittently. The same code shows up and my mechanic reset the codes but could not duplicate the jerking. But it started again afew days after the mechanic visit. What could this be?

This sounds like the problem I am having. The mysterious jerking. At first it was light and now it won't go at all. I've replaced Throttle position switch. does your check engine light come on? Mine doesn't. My mechanic thinks ignition switch possibly? I've replaced fuel filter (tank) already... let me know if you figure anything out. He's thinking now it could be the computer, since no light at all...

Could an EGR valve be the reason that the car still misfire? because I changed spark plugs and coils.

Yes, an EGR valve that does not close when it is supposed to can cause misfires. If you need more direction in finding the cause of a misfire, you need to add a real lot more details and information.

You will not get a dead cylinder misfire but you will see rough idle problems, normally a faulty EGR will give a check light. i would do a compression test and check for vacuum leak and ensure that the injectors are okay first.

Engine Performance problem
2000 Honda Accord 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 170K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My engine is shaking allot (2 days), and i get codes P300 thru P306 all cylinder misfireing, Also code P1399??? I have recently changed both O2 sensors. Could this be my crank sensor or EGR?? I dont know but mechanic wants 1k to fix. Can i get to the sensor myself?
I also have recently been getting some major hesitation for the past month, i did nothing about it and now i have hesitation and no power. The hesitation was only at low speeds or RPM, work fine going over 30mph.

Hi there,

replace the fuel filter and check fuel for contamination. have fuel rail pressure test done, this will help pick up a faulty (leaking) injector. Have the engine electrics checked running on an oscilloscope, this will help diagnose any ignition faults, check for any fault codes as well.

Thanks for the help. I did a "drop test" and found one cylinder bad, changed the coil pack and fixed the problem.
For thoes that would liek to know how...
With your car started start pulling the plug to your coil pack one at a time. You should hear your engine start to die. If you dont hear any change in engine idle that cilinder is the problem. Continue to all cylinders to make sure its only one cylinder. From there you have the plug, the coil pack, and the wire. If your plugs look good change the pack its $90 from honda.
this worked for me on my 2000 accord V6.

Thanks

I have an Accord with 188,000 that just started acting up. The check engine light came on and started blinking. When I pulled the codes I got 5 - P0300, P0303, P0304, P0306 & P1399.
The car had it's timing belt, altinator, battery & plugs changed last year. The car is ideling something awful and you can smell gas. The dealership recommended replacing the coils. Can the 3 coils go bad at the same time? Is there one coil for each spark plug?
Thanks!

Yes there is one for each cylinder and I am at a loss for how or why 3 would fail at the same time. They range from $46 a piece on up. They aren't that difficult to replace. It is highly likely this WILL fix the problems but .....maybe you could trying replacing one of the suspected bad ones, clear the codes, see if it runs a little bit better and that when the codes reappear that the one you replaced drops off. If not, you have problem further upstream. Just a thought versus jumping out a replacing them all at once.
