2000 Ford Windstar-just had a second transmission installed (first one-very shoddy work) but something keeps tripping this rebuilt tranny. Speedometer/tachometer goes haywire and then first gear only is straining. This happened before and after the tranny was rebuilt and the mechanic took it for a test drive only to have to pull the tranny again as the speedometer/tach issue damaged it. They seemed to correct it-test drove it and said it was fine. Gave it back to us and less than a day later-it happened again and we had it towed back to the shop where they are still figuring it out. Also the o/d light continuously blinks when this happens also. Any ideas??? Thanks for your time.

first of all the speedo, tach does not cause a trans to fail.
second, the od flashing is a code for a failure inside. it sounds like the shop is not familiar with this unit. i advise you to tell them to get you a ford re man unit to install for you. it is complete with everything including fluid. it is a plug and play unit.

my husband just got off the phone with the shop and they said it is 98% repaired however it needs some sort of "casing" which they are scrambling to try to find for that year/model. I don't know what this is but hope they find this part and this will do it. Would this have been something they should have known up front to look for or is this simply a trial and error thing? What is a ford re man unit?

yes, they should have known. a ford re man is a ford remanufatured transmission with a 3 yr 50k warranty. i would press for this.
