won't start-no crank. dead. radio, lights, heater, etc. all work fine. jumped socket 30 of starter relay to battery and starter motor does not turn. metered from ground to starter relay socket 85 with key to start and get +12 volts. all relays and fuses are good. the last part of the starter circuit is a wire from starter relay socket 86 to the pcm. what is this ? can it be my pcm that is preventing a start ? any way to bypass ? problem was intermittent for a day- now dead

Attached is the starting circuit schematic.

The relay receives its ground from the PCM and it could be a faulty PCM or the security system is armed.

two things to look at, one pull the connector off the crank sensor and plug its back in. if no start the pigtail at the starter may be one that ford put a technical service bulletin out on, they have a wire kit to fix it. look for any corrosion at starter

It seems as though my car has power but when you turn the key nothing not even the starter trying to turn. It started with the car seeming to have a dead battery But would start right away with a jump (about three times) On the fourth try to jump it nothing no turning of the starter engen trying to kick over just a clickor almost a hiss noise then nothing Not sure what the problem could be and any help would be appreciated!!!

IF the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned. Most parts stores will do it for free. ALso, check the fuel pressure. Directions are on our homepage under the DIY section.

When engine is shut off after being run for a while it will not start. It will not even turn over and almost acts as if the battery is dead. Had the battery and alternator tested- both are good.

Thanks

Hi
When engine is good and warmed up go to an Auto Zone and have starter draw checked. i think you'll find it excessive.
Hope this helps

If it starts easily after cooling for 30 to 60 mintues, then replace the starter. I had a couple of starters in my older Tauruses that died that way.

I was driving on the freeway the other day and the engine just stopped running. Luckily I had enough momentum to coast off the freeway into a gas station. Immediately after the engine died, I tried starting it in neutral and all I heard was a single click. I pulled it into the gas station and tried starting it again and it wouldn't turn over, just a single click. I had the battery, alternator and starter replaced about 1 year ago, so I couldn't imagine that it is one of these. I wanted to check to see if it could have been the starter, so I banged on it a few times, but the engine still wouldnt turn over, only a click. Any idea what might be the problem and the solution? Thanks!

could be corroded connections or bad connections.
also you could just because you replaced those items a year ago. doesnt mean you didn't get a bad one . you have to have the alternator and starter tested. first and we'll take it from there.

Hello,

My engine in my car is turning over the engine revs when you press on the gas but when you shift the car into different gears nothing happens. Can this be a tranmission problem? I was told that it could be my turke converter or I would need a new transmission. What would cause this to happen?

Hello,

to answer Kzersatz question that is correct I can put the car in drive and press the gas and the car won't move at all.

I can turn on the engine and the care will rev up and the engine will run fine but when I switch gears from park to drive and press the gas the engien will still run and rev but the car won't move at all.

I have not check the fuel levels for te tranny.

Check the fluid level first. The engine should be at operating temeperature and checked with the engine running.

3 weeks ago I was driving and my car just, shut off. I tried starting it again, wouldnt turn over. Tried again, it started but stalled. Tried again, started and stayed running.
I took it to my garage and they could not figure out what it was. Hooked it up to a diag, nothing showed up.
I drove it home, did not stall once. Drove it the next day, stalled 5 times in an hour.
When it stalls all the lights on my dash blink. The electrical all works when it stalls.
I am so puzzled and frustrated.

Fuel injectors may be dirty.. or plugged. The car just sitting there may have caused the gas to go bad which may have given them a head start on plugging from the get go. Get some cleaner for it.
When the dash lights blink, is it unlike anything you've seen it do before?
check the detail :

I'm having a very similar problem and I'm finding several older posts but this is the first current one. I too, have a 99 Taurus w/ the DOHC engine. A year ago it died when I came to a stop and wouldn't restart. I did get an engine light and eventually ended up replacing the EGR sensor and the crank case ventilation hose. I didn't have another problem again until about three months ago when I couldn't restart after a short stop. This has happened several times. The fix? Wait 15-30 minutes and the car starts right up. Yesterday, however, it stopped on me again at a light. I tried to start it so many time I ran the battery dead. So I let it sit an hour and it fired right up.

My son and I have also had several near stalls recently; usually when at or coming to a stop.

I'm getting no error codes. I have read in a few cases that peoples anti-theft lights are coming on and that maybe a faulty key might be the issue and that the anti-theft system retards the spark and cuts the fuel. In my case, I only have the one key so I cannot test the theory easily.

Is there a way to disable the anti-theft system?

As I recently discovered, another possibility may be the C.P.S.
Cam Position Sensor tells the PCM when to activate the fuel injectors, and is one of the major undiagnosed faults for hard starts and engine stumbles.

Usually you will get a "check engine" code but not always.

Chances are you got one of the ignition parts wet, and it isn't allowing the engine to start. Let the hood open so air and sun can get to it to dry things out. It should eventually dry and restart.

Let me know if you get it to go. IF not, we'll check some other things.
