2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0 supercab makes slight thump on start and stop , any help appreciated

Any vibrations on acceleration/deceleration?

Climb under the truck and firmly grasp the drive shaft. Now shake. It shouldn't move. If it does, determine which u-joint is bad.
