starts up goes few 100 yards and cuts out

Had a new clutch on ford Mondeo diesel 2.0tdci 2000 reg, i am having problems with speedo and car starts up goes few 100 yards and cuts out again, wasn't done by a garage, a man from around corner fitted it. please help asap jenni x
