While i was overseas I was told by my aunt that my transmission line broke for my '00 Ford Explorer. I am not to sure how that happen since I never had transmission problems with that car before... could that happen to a SUV that has been parked in a damp garage for months? I also wanted to know if someone replaced the breakline, would they have also known that the transmission line was bad too? It seems pretty hard to miss according to the pics I saw. Finually, my last question to you will be, how much would a transmission line replacement and a standard Tuneup cost?

Hello,

Yes, if your vehicle was stored in a camp area the line most like rusted. Also depending if there is access then possibly there were some furry animals crawling around in there.

As far as someone fixing the brake line and noticing the tranny line - they may not have noticed it if it wasn't leaking at the time. Plus would depend on which line they replaced.

The tranny line - depending on how rusty it is you can replace the metal line with rubber fuel line. You will need to determin how much rust how far it goes grom were it is leaking. You may only need 1' or 2 to fix plus 4 clamps, 3 clamps on each end of the hose. For a total cost of about $7.

The tune up will depend on the if you use OE plug or not if using OE plug they can run about $6 - $7 , if wires are original then I would replace them, a premium set can run about $50 or more.

The amount quoted above are prices if you do the work. If you take it to a garage you are looking at about double the cost plus at $250 in labor if not more.
