overdrive problem

I have a 2000 ford explorer xlt, and the overdrive off is flashing, and it won't shift into overdrive, what do you think the problem is?

First, it sounds like a TCC issue. However, that is a guess. Since the light is flashing, there will be a trouble code stored in the computer. Therefore, you need to have the computer scanned to identify where the problem is coming from.
