need to know how to remove the top 2 bolts on expedition transmission without taking apart the top of the engine

Never done this but with most transmissions to access the top bell housing bolts you will have to drop the cross member and lower the trans and use long extensions come over the top of the transmission, check this out this video which show the job being done.

it seems that on this particular model, the casing goes behind the motor so far that it's almost like to make an extra foot of space in the cab that they shoved all of these parts too far back to reach. Thank you, though, as they are across the street currently dis-assembleing the top of my engine :( (I know, my description is poor, I'm just the girl they sent searching for answers!!)

You can get to the bolts from under the car using a long extension just like in the video.

yes, it gives much more acess room for the trans components.
