2000 Ford Escort Trans problem

I can start the car and it will go into gear fine, after a minute or 2 it will not go into any gear but park. I can shut the car off restart it and it will do the same thing. The fuild is fine and not burnt. I have never run into a problem like this before. it has the VCT 4cyl eng auto. any help U can give would be greatly appercatied.

have a trans guy scan for codes first check fulid in trans if you can

The fulid level is ok and the color is good also, someone had suggested the TCM module. I thought that would only affect it from going into drive?
