2000 Ford Escort Running Hot

I have recently purchased a 2000 ford escort from its previous owner...after four months the car is beginning to run hot after 10-15 min of local driving....fan is running and coolant level is good...I contacted the previous owner and was told that he had removed the thermostat from the vehicle.. Could this be the problem?

Yes it can. What can happen is the coolant flows too fast and doesn't have time to cool in the radiator. However, in addition to replacing the thermostat, I would recommend flushing the cooling system. Removing the t-stat can cause this. However, there is a reason he removed it. If the coolant is flowing too fast because there is no t-stat to restrict it, it never gets time to cool off in the radiator. However, as I mentioned, there was a reason he removed it. You may replace it and have the same problem due to a partially plugged radiator, corrosion in the engine block itself...
