i have a 2000 dodge intrepid es that keeps blowing fuses when i press on the pedal.

I THINK you are refering to the brake pedal. If that is the case, check the wiring harness in the trunk to see if there are any bare wires. It sounds like when you close the trunk, it is shorting.

worked more on it today and found that if i unplugged the connector in the trunk that controls the remote release to the trunk, the hi bar brake light and the light in the trunk they are working. is there an easy fix to be able to hook that back up and it not blow my fuses?

when i say they are working i mean the regular brake lights. they are working with that connector unplugged but are blowing when i plug it back up.

You have to have a short. Is the plug you disconnected in good condition?

as far as i can tell it is.. however i thought it was kind of weird that it was attached to the metal of the car a little under where it connects. cant really get my hand in there to see how it is connected to the metal if it is by cable tie or something like that. not sure if that would be the problem or not either...

It could be where the problem is. Chances are there is a black plastic hanger type clamp holding it there that is pushed into a small hole in the sheet metal.
