WITH KINDA NO CLUE WHAT YOUR BOOK SAYS EXACTLY...OVER THE COURSE OF GETTING TO THE PART YOU ARE REFERRING TO.
MAYBE THEY MEAN IT MUST BE IN 4 LOW TO DISASSEMBLE IT?
IF YOUR LINKAGE FELL OFF IN 4 LOW---CAN'T YOU LEAVE THE SHIFTER/ BUTTON/ K.NOB, ETC IN 4 LOW...AND PUT THE LINKAGE BACK ON---THEN TEST TO SEE IF ALL OTHER POSITIONS WORK CORRECTLY?
JUST FROM A "JEEP" STANDPOINT....LET'S SAY I'M IN 4 HIGH, I PARK IT, STILL IN 4 HIGH....I RETURN, AND UNKNOWINGLY, GREMLINS, MY BUDDIES, OR A COTTER PIN FELL OUT....I DRIVE AWAY........I GO TO PUT IT BACK INTO 2 HIGH....IT WON'T MOVE.
I CRAWL UNDER AND SEE ONE SIDE OF MY LINKAGE IS DANGLING....IT SORTA WON'T REACH, TO RE-ATTACH IT....I MOVE "MY"-"MANUAL SHIFTER" SLIGHTLY (UP TOP, THE SHIFTER IS "SHOWING" IT'S IN 4 HIGH NOW) I REPLACE THE PIN (WHICH MIRACULOUSLY, I HAVE A SPARE!), RE-INSERT A NEW COTTER PIN......WAH-LAH!!!...I'M IN 4 HIGH (STILL), I CAN NOW SHIFT TO 2 HIGH!
I FEEL SURE YOURS IS DIFFERENT---THEORY IS THE SAME???
