braking there is no power steering?

i replaced the power steering pump on my 2000 dodge dakota and now at low rpm or when braking there is no power steering but when i apply the gas it starts working again. what could be the problem?

replaced P/S pump. new fluid.

when i brake i lose power steering. i already changed to pump because it was bad. why do i lose power steering when i apply the brakes?

maybe belts too loose/worn? does it do it when stopped with foot on brake?
