crankshaft position sensor location?

It is in one of two places. Side of the engine or on the transmission. See pics attached.

2000 Caravan 3.0 engine runs great!…until the temperature drops below 40 degrees, then it will not start….later in day when 15 degrees warmer will start right up & run.
Spark & battery good… No smell of leaking fuel….it will start using ether spray without issue…. It appears fuel is not reaching the fuel injectors when cold. Does a 2000caravan 3.0 have a cold start injector? Will a bad cam sensor or crank sensor shut fuel off when cold?

Even if the battery is good it they turnvery slowly below 40 Degrees. That is not uncommon. To alleviate this get a heated battery blanket and use synthetic oil as it stays thinner at colder temperatures and protects the engine better because it can flow at these low temperatures.
You can also find a variety of cold weather electricla heaters for the coolant and the oil.

Thanks....but it doesn't turn slowly....starter spins crank rapidly...problem is its not getting fuel...is there a temperature sensor somewhere that activates a richer flow of fuel?

No. Maybe ypou should check the fuel pressure at both temps.

Test light indicates no power to fuel pump when outside temperature dips below 40....replaced both fuel pump relay and fuse... no luck, still wont start....would any other (failing) sensors restrict power to fuel pump in cold weather?...Same thing happened last winter too...after Spring warmup, months without any starting issues

I cannot think of any sensors that would get stuck at that temperature as it is not freezing and even if it was the only thing I could think of is a bad battery. I did not expect you to not have any fuel pressure or power to the pump at the lower temperatere. This is a real ghost in the machine. I will try to ask around but I just can't think of what it might be.
Did you get the trouble codes pulled. That would help, maybe, if you have not. Any Advance Auto ro Auto Zone will do this for free.

My car had stopped in the middle of the road while I was stopped at a Red light. I had no issues with the car before this happend. I towed my car to a local mechanic where I was told that Crank sensor had gone bad.

Could you please tell me how much should it cost to repair Crank Sensor on 00 Dodge Caravan v6. My mechanic is telling my that It will cost $350 since it took him 3.5 hrs to take the sensor out. As per him the sensor was stuck so bad that he had to lower the engine and Pull back Transmission few inches before he could take the Sensor out.

Is this a fair price?

If the crank sensor is stuck and could not come out with normal method then do you need to remove the engine mounts to drop the engine and then back out the transmission few inches to remove the sensor ? If you do then how much should it cost?

Get a second opinion. You may need to remove the air intake and a couple of other wires. And the crankshaft sensor is on the top of the transmission. Most places charge to the nearest hour, so 1 hour labor. and about $50 part.

I won't see your subsequent questions if they are being edited to your original post. I have never had one that was stuck into the transmission. While it is possible, I honestly don't see how the sensor would be stuck in the bellhousing. If you have never seen the sensor, it looks like this.

I am not sure how long that will take. The book doesn't show how much time necessary for such procedure. He probably charged you the actual time that he spent removing the sensor. I still believe that 2 hours would be ample time to perform such feat.

Have a 2000 dodge caravan with 90000miles. No problems until the last 2 weeks. My wife was driving it home when it lost all power and shut down by the side of the road. Waited approx. 1 hour and it started with no problems and drove it the rest of the way home. I drove it the next morning and had the same problem. Returned later in the afternoon and was able to drive it home. Had it in the shop and the mechanic was not able to find a problem on the computer. Thought maybe it was a fluke, but my wife drove it again today and it shut down within 15minutes of home. All problems have happened while driving it at speed. No problems at idle or driving at low speed around town.

I had a similar problem and symptoms with my 1994 pontiac and a friend suggested I replace the "pick up module" in the distributor. My mechanic stated that the pontiac didn't have a pick-up module, but the sensor he replace was it's equivilent. Have had no problems with the car since it was replaced. Is the crank sensor the same as the old pick up module? If not, what else could be causing my van to quit running. I am assuming it's a sensor because the van runs fine until up to speed/temp, then just shuts down. I assume the sensor heats up and then loses it's connection, cools down and is fine until it gets too hot, rinse, repeat. Any help would be appreciated. Plan on having it turned in to have said sensor replaced as we are going on vacation in 2 weeks. Any other avenues I can pursue?

You are correct the crank sensor and cam sensor replaced the distributor and pick up coils
I would for sure check and or replace the crank sensor
also check fuel pressure

The crankshaft position sensor mounts to the engine block behind the generator, just behind the oil filter.

REMOVAL

Raise and support vehicle.
Disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft position sensor.
Remove sensor mounting screw.
Pull crankshaft position sensor straight out.

I need to know where the crankshaft position sensor is located.

I'm not sure which engine size you have, so I went with the most common, a 3.3L V6. If that is not correct, let me know. The crank sensor has one bolt that holds it in place. Here are the directions. The attached pics correlate with the directions.

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor electrical connector from the wiring harness connector (Fig. 4).
3. Remove crankshaft position sensor retaining bolt.
4. Pull crankshaft position sensor straight up out of the transaxle housing.


NOTE: If the removed sensor is to be reinstalled, clean off the old spacer on the sensor face. A NEW SPACER must be attached to the sensor face before installation. If the sensor is being replaced, confirm that the paper spacer is attached to the lace of the new sensor (Fig. 5).

INSTALLATION
1. Install sensor in transaxle and push sensor down until contact is made with the drive plate. While holding the sensor in this position, and install and tighten the retaining bolt to 11.9 Nm (105 in lb) torque.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Connect crankshaft position sensor electrical connector to the wiring harness connector.

there is a bolt that keeps it tight and there is a connector that needs to be disconnected. then you twist it to release the o-ring and then pull it up and out.
