While driving home from work today my 2000 Dodge Caravan started to shake, buck and act like it was going to stall whenever I slowed down to stop. Then when I was at a complete stop it acted as if it was going to stall. I put it in neutral and revved the motor and was fine, but as I put it in drive it began to sputter and buck. I made it home and put it in park and left it running to listen under the hood and heard a rattle noise. Is this my transmission? I pray it's not something costly!!

The rattling noise my husband found was due to a loose bolt. This morning I drove the van and it was fine. My drive to work is about 30 minutes and nothing happened. I was very, very low on transmission fluid because of a slow transmission leak I have had and I filled it up and all other fluids were fine. So, now I'm not sure what to do. I will ck the idle air control motor and the EGR valve when I get home. Thanks for the info.
