I have a 2000 Chevy S10. The hood latch broke and even the cable that was attached has rescinded to the point where I cannot even grab it with plyers. It seems my only option to open the hood is through the grill somehow, but I can't figure it out. Can you help me out?

Try cutting the cable housing back to expose the inner cable thats what i would do to be able to get some vise grips on the inner cable.

Welcome, usually that plastic handle breaks, If you can reach the cable, use a pair of vice-grips on the cable and pull to open the hood. I guess you could ask the dealer, see if they have a new assembly. I have seen universal hood release mechanisms in the autostores.

Need to get the hood open to replace it. If I remember correctly you should be able to get to the latch from the grille area or from underneath the front end. Then replace the entire cable

Have a helper jiggle the hood up and down as you move the handle. Sometimes they get stuck. If that opens the hood, make sure to lubericate the linkage and the cable to prevent it from happening again. If that doesn't work, using a flashlight, locate where the cable attaches to the linkage. Make sure it is releasing it. You may need a long screwdriver to help it along if it isn't fully releasing.

Welcome to the forum, usually the plastic handle breaks and the cable is still there. If you can't reach the cable, all I know is to remove the front grill, see if can reach the release mechanism.

Hi all,
My cable for the primary hood release has either broken or become disconnected.
How can I release this latch in order to get to the secondary one and then open the hood.
Thanks,
Tony R

You are going to have to come from underneath with a hanger and the hook end to grab the latch and pull it just like the cable would.

Once we are able to pop the latch then you will be able to use the handle like normal.

Here is a video that will help with replacing this. It is slightly different on your truck, but the process is not much different.

https://youtu.be/BUG6_wBEHKA

Below is the part number of the cable that we need to replace.

Please run through this process and let me know what questions you have.

Thanks
