cam sensor is common issue when the retard spec is out of spec. most likely some other issue

I was just reitterating what the mechanic said. I took it that the cam sensor or cam was out of sync wh the crank sensor or crank.

yes, common for cam retard code. it comes from either a bad sensor, wiped out distributor gear or a bad timing chain.

what would be the easiest way of determining which is the issue?

do you have a scan tool that can read cam retard timing?? this is required to start the process.
