Turn Signal Flasher Relay Location?

I am fairly certain that the reason my turn signals do not work (intermittently) on my 2000 Buick Century, is that the flasher/relay needs to be replaced. However, I am having a hard time actually finding or getting to it to replace it.
Some sources have said it is located on the inside of the drivers side dash access panel on the very end of the dash that you see when you open the drivers side front door. Your sources tell me that you cannot remove that panel, unlike the similar fuse box cover panel on the passenger side. Now I cannot figure out quite how to get up inside that area of the car to try and get my eyes and hands on the flasher/relay to remove and replace it. What is the EXACT procedure to get access to that area? There is a fibrous carpet colored panel covering that general area. But I can't quite even figure out how to remove that without damaging the retaining plastic things holding it in place. Please give me the best description you can to open that area up and be able to access and change that flasher/relay unit. Thank you

This is kind of fun and interesting having an actual forum to discuss this sort of thing. Ok, well, I went to the Buick dealer to see about getting this fixed. That part we are talking about is only $19.00. When I asked them what the labor to replace it would be, in the event I couldn't get to it myself, which you guys seem to have solved for me, they told me the labor would be $130.00 because the book was telling them they needed to pull the steering wheel to get to it. That is pretty obviously not the case from the info you have shown me here.

I left there deciding to wait to buy the part until I could figure out from you guys if I really could get to it myself. Seems I can, but here is where it gets interesting. The turn signals stopped working and no flasher blinking about a week ago. It would work for about the first 20 minutes of driving then stop working each day. Yesterday, it did not work at all even on first start up of the day. So, after stopping at the dealer and getting that info, I decided to try one more little test to test the flasher unit. I turned on the emergency flashers. Lo and behold, not only did the emergency flasher start flashing just fine, much to my surprise, ALSO the turn signals started working just fine too and worked just fine for the rest of driving around town with several stops for over an hour and never stopped working again. What do you aces think about all that? I'm really curious. Guess we will see what happens next. If the turn signals stop working again, of course I will turn on the emergency flashers and see if I can repeat the repair hack!

It looks like the turn signal flasher is under the dash on the drivers side. Here are some diagrams so you can see what I am talking about (Below) The hazard flasher is the same as the run signal flasher. You can access this relay by removing the drivers side instrument panel access opening as shown in the included image.

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/337657_leftclustercover_1.gif

The relay is a rectangular black box with only four wires coming out of it, a purple wire, a black wire and two light blue wires. The flasher looks like the one shown in the next image:

Check out the diagrams (Below) Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed. Cheers, Ken

Turn signals quit working, checked fuses and ground wires, put in multifunction switch and it worked for 3 min. And quit. It will click but nothing comes on, no flashers. Could it be flasher relay or break in pink wire? If a break, can the whole wire be replaced?

I would change the flasher relay. It may be getting hot and quit I would try that first. I wouldn't thing the wire is bad ------ possible but I would try the relay first.

Howdy. My left turn went out a couple of days ago. The right turn signal works, but the left one does not. It (the left one) clicks about twice as fast as the right and does not flash on the dash at all. I am not a car dummy girl I have tried swapping out the fuses and the bulb to no avail. I have been looking on the internet and many places, including this one, mention the flasher. I went to the parts store and got it, but they did not know where it was, but they did have the part. So now I am pouring out my heart on this forum for some handsome strong man to help me out ;). Where on God's Green Buick is the dang flasher?

Hey Nice post, tired of the same old stuff? The flasher is on the left side of the steering column attached to a bracket.

For the heck of it, did you try your emergency flashers to see what happens? That is if all 4 lights light up?

Wow fantastic diagram, I will give it a go tomorrow when the sunshine comes back, and let you know how it turned out.

"For the heck of it, did you try your emergency flashers to see what happens? That is if all 4 lights light up?"

I have tried the hazard lights but the same thing happens, the right blinkers work great, but the left ones (front and back) do not.

My turn signal is stuck solid when the signal switch is used, but the hazards still flash when I use my hazards. I'm assuming it's the signal relay causing the issue. My problem is getting to the relay. Where is the signal relay in a 1995 Buick Century and how do I access it?

My turn signal will not flash. All the lights work but just will not flash. I cannot find the flasher relay. I looked in the fuse box, under the dash, and under the hood. I cannot find it anywhere. Could you please tell me where to find it? Thank you, Duane

I have searched everywhere under the dash and I am not seeing anything that even looks like the turn signal flasher! Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Since they light up be fail to flash, my first suspect is the turn signal flasher. This is an inexpensive component and easy to replace.

On your vehicle, the turn flasher is located on the bracket above accelerator pedal. If you look at the attached picture, you will see it. In the second pic, I circled the wire to it and the flasher itself.

Disconnect the wire to it and then pull the flasher from the bracket. Reverse the process to replace it.

Let me know if that takes care of the problem or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Welcome back:

That is a sound insulator. I attached a picture of it. There are three screws and one nut that need removed to take it off. I circled everything in the attached picture to help you locate them.

Let me know if this helps.

My turn signal on the driver side is very slow and does not actually blink. I know if the signal is fast that one of both of the turn signal bulbs are bad. I do have lights in both the front and rear but do not get any actual blinking. I checked the fuse and it seems fine for the turn signals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Suspect faulty turn signal flasher relay. It is either located behind the right side of dash, behind the fuse block OR behind the dash, between steering column and radio.
