1999 Volkswagen Passat Battery connections

Is the negative post on the pasat VW connect to ground or is the positive post connect to ground? I need to install a radio and it is important that the radio is connected correctly, so that it won't short out.

Negative goes to ground. Follow the two cables from the negative post and you'll see the large one goes to the engine block, and the smaller wire goes to the body.
