1. 1999 jetta (gas) no signal to injectors
Hello all
I have a 1999 jetta that has stopped running. It has a new fuel pump relay and the pressure at the fuel rail is good. Also new coil, plugs, and wires. The throttle body has also been completly cleaned.
If you spray starter fluid in the throttle body it starts up for a few seconds.
I put the noid lights on the injector connector but had no signal at all. Ran the scanner and got codes
po303
p1300
p1225
p1226
p1227
p1228
p1425
p1472
p1582
p0102
The codes overlap some of the issues but it seems to indicate a short circut in the evap or fuel system. Need to know if anyone has been down this rbefore and where to look next.
Thanks
Larry

P0303 - Cyinder 3 misfire detected.
P1300 - Unable to find any information our database but should be related to P0300
P1225 - Cylinder 1 injector circuit shorted to ground
P1226 - Cylinder 2 injector circuit shorted to ground
P1227 - Cylinder 3 injector circuit shorted to ground
P1228 - Cylinder 4 injector circuit shorted to ground
P1425 - Tank Vent Valve shorted to ground
P1472 - EVAP emission control LDP circuit short to ground
P1582 - Idle Adaptation at limit.
P0102 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input.

Since vehicle is not starting, I would suggest starting with the injector circuit first.

The fuel pump relay has been replaced.
Could this be an issue with the ignition switch?
The cruise control stopped working right before all this happened.

If it is an ignition switch problem, you would not be getting any sparks as well.

At the injector circuit, ensure there is battery voltage at the RED/Violet wire with ignition switch turned on and while cranking. If voltage is available, the fuel pump relay is working correctly.

The cruise control is linked to the ECM. check fuse # 5 in fuse panel behind left sie of dash. Use a DVOM to check the Black.Blue wire for battery voltage with inition switch turned on. If voltage is available, ensure White/Yellow wire from switch has battery voltage. If voltae is available, you could have a faulty ECM.

Check all fuses under hood and in vehicle. If the wires touched, they shorted. The first thing should have been a fuse. Remove the fuse that is in the affected circuit and check it for continuity. It could look good but still need replaced.

The next time it does not start, leave the key in the ON position.... is the CHECK ENGINE light on?

The check engine light should be ON when the key is ON. If not, then the Engine Computer is NOT powered up.

Could be a bad ECM relay.

that could very well be the case, try to undo the negative cable on the car battery for fifteen minutes and then put it back on and then try.

I bought a used 95 Jetta III about 9 months ago. Everything was running fine until around late December when I stopped and got gas and the car wouldn't start after I was done pumping. I had it towed to a garage and had the starter replaced and everything was fine. A few months later, I get out of work on a relatively warm day and the car won't start. No noise came from the car. No crank. Nothing. All of the lights turned on and the radio work as well which made me think it wasn't a battery problem. But I thought it couldn't hurt to try and jump it. Still nothing. I had it towed back to my mechanic and it started fine for him which confused me even more. A few months pass and one morning it doesn't start again. Same thing, no crank, all the electrical aspects work, but every now and then when I try and turn it over there is a slight grinding noise coming from the engine. I replace the battery and still nothing. So I have it towed back to the same mechanic and they replace the spark plug coil and the fuel pump sensor and it starts fine for about a month. Now it seems to not start on hot days and/or when it's been sitting out in the sun. I have looked online for answers and I have noticed that there are a few common problems with this year's model. Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to fix it?

When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Thanks for your response. We have done all that you suggested and determined that my fuel pump is shoot and my spark is intermitten (?) even after the new coil (bosch). but still no start. My mechanic said something like the ecu isnt giving the "go" signal for everything to work. It would help him troubleshoot if he had the ECU wiring diagram. Would it be possible to email me one?

Hey Guys, I have a 1997 Volkswagon Jetta and I've recently had issues getting it stated. The temperature recently change and it started of intermitten at first, with the cold weather it wouldn't turn over and when it was warm it would strugle like the engine was choking and then fire up. Well now, it hasn't started in a couple of days hot or cold and I've tested the battery which is still good so i've ruled out battery and alternator. I did have real bad corosion issues with my terminal posts but the test came back positive so the next step I can think of is the starter, I was told this is also a common sympton of a faulty ECU... would you say I"m on the right track and do you know of any other possibilities? I was told this is also a common sympton of a faulty ECU.

If its cranking over and will not start-Do below

Cranks and w/n start

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

No crank at all/nothing/nada:

Could be the starter, starter relay, park and neutral switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.

Hi, I washed my 96 VW Jetta while it was on and it turned off and didnt want to turn back on. left it open to dry over night and didnt start up. We changed out the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, distributor, ignition coil (4 different ones-Autozone n VW), alternator, coolant temperature sensor and nothing. It cranks, we are getting fuel. We are getting power to the ignition coil but not out of it. Any info will help. Thank you.

Respectfully,
Dave

Well I had the same problem the other day when I was detailing my wifes 97 jetta gls. I washed the engine while it was running being careful to stay away from the electrical. Then I pulled it out of the bay and it died and wouldnt start back up. Well after lots of looking around for why... I found that the ignition coil had a small crack in it. So I siliconed the coil all around the plastic housing and have had 0 problems since. Hope this helps

Engine runs, but you cannot throttle up or it bogs and dies. You can take off and give it gas slowly and it will come up to speed. Some times it does not want to start, but if you try it 3 or 4 times it will start. It has intermittently started to do this and then was alright, but now you just cannot give it much throttle at all or it bogs and dies. And also can you tell me where the plug in for diagnostic is on this car? I did replace fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator. Thanks Gary

Very common failure is the ignition coil
I would suspect coil mounted on firewall
check ignition wires
check fuel pressure too

Engine Performance problem
1993 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 330000 kilometers

Hi !!!!

Up until about 6 months ago my 1993 VW Jetta CSX (standard carburettor model) used to start on the turn and remain idling perfectly.
Now, although it still starts perfectly, it would not idle when cold.
I have to rev the car for about 5 minutes before it starts idling and as it warms up the idling gets smoother and eventually perfect.
Please assist by advising me what to clean or replace and also give me some idea where the part is located in the car.
By the way my 1989 VW FOX has a similar problem so you will be helping me to "kill 2 birds with 1 stone"
Eagerly awaiting your response.

Thanx

Well we can start with the choke plate making sure its properly adjusted and the air and fuel mixture screw and idle screw-Inspect the PCV and EGR valves, also look for vacuum leaks before the engine comes up to its operating temperature

I have a sporadic problem with my Jetta
- Every so often whilst driving it the engine with just turn off.
- It happens in warm and cold weather, sometime 5 minutes in the journey....sometimes 45 minutes.
- When it happens the engine will not start again, I generally have to sit there like an idiot for about 2 minutes before the engine starts.
- All the electrics (radio, lights, warning lights) stay on, so don't think it's electrical.
But saying that have replaced the battery, the coil, the distributor and the ignition barrel in a effort to rectify this problem.
- Someone has mentioned that it might be a valve in the air filter that could be causing this?
Does that make sense to anyone? OR has anyone experience the same problem with a VW or Jetta?

OK when this happens have you checked to see if there is no spark or no fuel? If not then that needs to be done to determine what might be causing the problem. Let me know what you can and we will take it from there.

Hi, Our Jetta occasionally slips into a lower gear say from 4th into 3rd, and the only way to get it to run correctly is to shut engine off and restart it. Then it will run fine again. We did have the transmission checked out and the service guy said it was fine. But they only work on transmissions. Any ideas??

Thanks for your time. Terri

There is a technical service bulliten on your transmission for the transmission fluid temp sensor, there is a new part for it. If it senses fluid is 137 degrees or above, the PCM goes into "hot running program" VW should be able to help with the new part.

I'm helping a friend try to repair their 1998 Jetta gt 2.0 L. The car wouldn't start initailly due to a bad starter. Replaced the starter and the car started right up, backed it off the ramps turned it off and walked away for 5 minutes. Came back to start it again, and it wouldn't start. It will bump start though. Replaced the battery, bipassed the clutch safety switch. Still no go. A light tester showed no power at the clutch safety switch, or the low or high beams. The rear lights still work. Turning the high beams on causes the wind shield wipers to come on. Was thinking it could be a relay, but I'm at a loss with what could cause this and why it won't start. Thanks for any help anyone could give, it's much appreciated.
