water pump froze. after replacing pump, housing, seals and timing belt and trying to align cam and crank pulleys, crankshaft only turns 180 degrees either direction by hand. camshaft turns freely.

This is an interference motor. Most likely you are hitting the valves in the cylinder head with the pistons.
