billowing smoke from new exhaust pipe

Have you ever heard of a butterfly valve in reference to the exhaust pipe being installed on a 1999 Saab 9-5 Turbo? I had pipe replaced and ever since, there is bellowing smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. someone told me there was a "butterfly valve" located where the pipe connects and if not careful, the clip/valve could get flipped up and that would cause all the smoke. I haven't driven it for quite a while and can't afford to have it towed back to the muffler shop 25 miles away, plus it's been about 8 months since it's been driven. Was also told it could be the turbo gone bad. If it's the turbo, I will sell for what I can. Any help is very much appreciated!

white. and it wasn't smoking at all before I had the exhaust replaced. ever since, it's like a naval defense smoke screen.

White smoke is a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber, i would get a head check done for any signs of a gasket leak, are you using any coolant?

not recently....the car hasn't been driven for about 6 months or so. I have a number for a mobile car doctor that I may end up calling. just wondering if this is a sign of future problems with the car and maybe I should try to sell it. It just sounds like it could get really expensive before it's over.

A head check is a quick and simple chemical test to check for Co in the cooling system, this will indicate a cooling leak into the combustion chamber, if this is negative you may have a leak into the inlet manifold which would not be a drastic, also check the brake fluid as i have seen faulty master cylinders leaking into boosters and drawing fluid past the one way valve into the engine, brake fluid burning would send a huge white smoke screen and it stinks as well.

white smoke is also a sign that u may have a bad turbo seal causing oil to get into the exhaust side of turbo ,.note also to check oil level if too much oil like 2-3 qrt's more than needed it will also re-act the same way lots of white smoke ,good luck.
