renault megane scenic (v550ddy) automatic ,i have been told by various mechanics that the ringgear is worn ,but the problem i have now i am unable to start i tried cranking manually by hand but no joy and hitting starter motor with a hammer but no joy nothing works how do i know when starter is engaged with the ringgear ,i keep turning crank pulley goes loose and tight but i never get it in the right place for it to start the engine ,if i can get it started i can then take it too the garage too have this fixed ,i dont really want it recovered cost too much .i hope you can assist appreciate if someone can help .many thanks
