on a 2.4L 1999 pontiac grand am se engine, what is mounted directly beside the intake on the side of the cylinder head? between the intake and power steering pump? I just replaced 2 busted valves, reassembled engine and have a part missing that mounts directly beside the intake manifold on the same surface to the right of the intake manifold as looking at it from front of car with hood up. the gasket is a backwards "L", it has 3 bolt holes and a larger hole between that pulls in vacuum.

i checked that also. if you look at the EGR valve autozone shows for this vehicle, the base of it doesn't match the mounting location on the head, but that gasket in the link you sent is the right one.
if you click the pic of the EGR valve it will bring up more pics and it'll show you a close up of the bottom. i could be looking at it wrong. thanks for the quick reply

Yeah, I noticed that. But, like you said, the gasket it right. Stick a small screwdriver in the unthreaded hole and scrape lightly. See what comes out. If it's black and sooty, it's the EGR.

i remember taking it off now..it was very rusty and hot. after checking the repair manual i noticed that the EGR isn't bolted to the head, it's bolted to something else that has a tube coming out of it then that other part is bolted to the head. no salvage yard in the area has the same car or the same engine i'm working on so i can't reference anything but a small picture.

it's called the EGR adapter that the EGR valve is mounted to, then the EGR adapter is mounted to the cylinder head. problem solved, thanks for all your help. here's a pic to help anyone in the future. the EGR adapter is #6 while the EGR valve is #2.

The EGR bolts to the Adapter. The adapter bolts to the head. The hole in the adapter receives exhaust from a passage through the head. Comes through the adapter to the valve, out of the valve to the EGR tube that bolts to the adapter and goes to a EGR port on the intake manifold.
