Engine started cutting out when I was pulling a small utility trailer under 800 pounds. Mostly after car had been driven for several hours on a warm summer day. The RPMs dropped and battery light flashed but car did not stall out. I replaced fuel filter, air filter, Battery. Had alternator checked and putting out 14.3 amp. Now today it did it 5 min after I started up the car in my driveway. cut out as I was pulling out and for about 1/4 mile up the street at small incline. Then stopped cutting out and ran normal. It idles great, no miss in the engine. Runs great until this. Tell me some inexpensive fixes to maybe hit on the problem. I know the crankshaft sensor and cam sensor can foul out when they get hot. I could replace those. I could replace coil paks. Mechanic wants to replace fuel pump but at $350 I can't afford to guess that that will fix it. I am retired, widowed and on fixed income. I really would like to keep the car but its not dependable as it is. Can you think of any suggestions that might lead me in the right direction to repair it?
