the vaccum hose will cause the rough idle due to the extra oxygen in the engine.

I am re-building a 1998 Nissan altima 2.4 motor. Someone put a crank kit in it and set the timing wrong (interference engine)... Need I say more. He was then fired and I was called to fix the car. ( lucky me) the man prior to me used no gaskets only really thick silicone. Half the bolts were missing, there were washers added to bolts that were too long. Nothing was cleaned prior to re-install. I have a mess on my hands. It has been just over a month since I took the car down, I finally got the head back and all the gaskets to fix it right. So the problem I have is I don't know what I took off a moth ago was right and what was wrong. Any wiring diagrams, vacuum diagrams, timing diagrams, torque specs. Anything would help. And to all you do it your selfers don't ever take this project I am an experienced ASE certified mechanic and this motor is a night mare.

You need to state the symptoms and what you want to know within your question. We are not getting notifications from additional responses right now so it might be a good idea to start over in another question.

I have a 2000 Nissan Altima. Live in CA. My question is...The car has a rough idle, also when in drive at stop lights, the car bounces rpms. 1000 rpms to 600rpms and wants to die when hitting 600. I am very capable of working on the car myself but need some guidance. When looking around I found a hose that was not connected to anything. Need help connecting it back. Found the hose below the air filter compartment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Stacy

The hose you found off can be a vacuum line which will cause the problem you are having. Can you please shoot a quick video (or image) with your phone so we see the hose, that would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

Please get back to us. Cheers, Ken
