My 1999 Mitsubishi eclipse's transmission won't shift out of second gear. I had the local parts store scan it and it had 2 codes.
The first one reads P0700 (Transmission control system - mil request)
The second one reads P0750 (shift solenoid "A" malfunction)
I have the transmission control system out of the car now and am wondering how do I have it cleared or should I just replace it or focus more to the solenoid code?

I need to try and explain the P0700. It is a generic informative code which normally indicates an issue with one of the sensors. Yes, the TCM can be bad, shorted, or have an open circuit, but that is to be determined. It primarily indicates a problem with the transmission controls including sensors and actuators.

What is recommend at this point is to find someone with a scanner that can read specific transmission codes to further investigate the TCM. Chances are, the TCM code is coming on because of a faulty shift solenoid, but the only way to be sure is to actuate the solenoids / sensors via a scanner to see how they react.
