Where do I find the transmission ID number on a 1999 Mercury cougar 4 cylinder automatic? How many ID's are there for these cars? Also, what transmissions from what cars are interchangable for this car?

there is metal tag on the side that identifies the unit.

I would not mix and match. each unit is unique to each car.
