I bought a 99 cougar for work car and am working to get it back into driving condition. One of the issues that I need to resolve is the shifter. I and put the car into first - fifth gear just fine, but once in first gear the shifter can be pushed directly right like its in third gear, but the transmission is still in first gear. The same for 2nd and 4th. It doesn't happen from 3rd to fifth or 4th to rev
What would allow the shifter to do this? If I remember correctly the shift pattern is determined by the transmission.
