Is the OD light and check engine light on? If not, check engine/ transaxle mounts, if yes, there is a bulletin about moisture in the tranmission range switch, unplug it and check for moisture or corrosion. If found have a Mazda dealer replace the switch, if it's not installed right, internal damage to the transmission will occur.

The check engine light is on and I took it to Auto Zone but the code was for a O2 sensor. I will have someone check engine/transaxle mounts. I will also check for moisture/corrosion in transmission range switch. I have my fingers crossed that this isn't a major issue....thanks.....Les

Finally back in town and first thing I did was to replace burnt out/missing warning bulbs in instument cluster(seller had apparently removed, hmmm) and I have a flashing O/D light. Check engine light no longer on after replacing air filter and cleaning map sensor. I had my 1999 mazda protege scanned for codes and it revealed P0750 (Pressure Control Solenoid Malfunction). From reading various Mazda forums with people with similar probems this seems to indicate a bad EPC solenoid. What do you think? I think this is a project that I may be able to tackle if so. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Les

If it is the EC-AT Solenoid, it is located on the valve body. Drop the transmission oil pan, after draining and there it is.

Motor and transaxle mounts can be checked by firmly setting the parking brake, putting the car in gear, and watching the engine/transaxle for excessive motion as the RPMs are raised to about 2000. Stand at the side of the car while watching. Block the wheels for added safety.

I don't see a P0750 for this make and model. I see a P0751 which is shift solenoid "A" malfunction-stuck off. P0752 is the same, except 'Stuck On'.

You should see it after draining and dropping the pan.

my mazda protege is 1998 mode this is an LX 1.8l. according to a mazda dealership here in edmonton, this type of model was release only here in canada. this is the VIN number of my car: JM1BC1422W0186375. can someone help me the right part # of the shift solenoid A and also the epc solenoid? do i still need to pull down the valve body to remove it? or it can be easily puled out. i need to order this solenoid as soon as possible that is why i really need the right part number of it.

You can get the right part # from the dealership much quicker than we can, and you wouldn't be charged international phone rates, either.
