Transmission problem

I was parked with car in first gear, after starting car, I could not put car into reverse. I pulled forward slightly and tried again to move the gear shift and it would move. I tried pulling forward again then was able to get it into reverse. I drove home going through gears and it seemed alright. The next morning, I had the same problem. But the clutch does not seem to be engaging. And I still cannot change gears. What could be the problem, clutch or transmission? It is a 5 speed transmission.
