How do I know if the the fuel pump is bad or a faulty fuel relay

I dropped my son off at school as I was pulling,out the car off.what can I ?do to test the fuel pump, spray starter fluid in the intake?

By testing for power arriving at the pump while monitoring the fuel pressure using a gauge.
