AC compressor bearings are shot, very noisy and the clutch froze up. How dothe AC compresser bypass pulley work?

Does anyone know the work hours it is to replace the AC compressor with new AC compressor? I dont really care if I have AC. Is it much easier to go with the bypass pulley
