1999 Infiniti I30 1999 I-30 P0400 OBD Failed Emissions

OK do you have the read out that tells you the emission that it produced? If so get me those readings so I can why the car failed. You should have a readout that tells you the max HC's and CO2's and etc and it should also say what the car put out. Once I see that then I can better help with what may help it pass. Get back to me and I will then let you know what you can try to get it to pass.

Ok you failed smog because the engine light is on and saying that the EGR system is not opening. So with that I would find the egr valve and check the vacuum lines to it making sure that none of them are cracked. Here is a pic of the EGR valve itself so you can look for it and check all the plastic or rubber hoses for any cracks. If there are cracks then repair or replace the hose. Once the hose is replaced then call around to your local parts stores and find one that does a free scan so you can have the light turned off. Untill the light is off and stay's off it will not pass smog. Let me know how it goes.

Have same problem on my car. Pulled vacume line (one on top of above picture) and it was full of gas. How is it possible gas is coming out of vacume line??? My Infiniti has 75K on it.

I would have to see how it is connected to be for sure however it is may be connected to the charcoal canister in some way. Can you include a pic?

Vacume line goes to throttle assembly. Talked to Infiniti dealer who said problem is exhaust line going to EGR gets
coked up with carbon. Take that off and clean it out and that should fix problem. Reset computer by clearing code. Looks like that line could be a bear to get to. Will put up on ramps see if I can get it off.

You can't even see where the other end of the exhaust line from the EGR valve goes. Has to hook into the exhaust pipe somewhere but you can't see it from underneath the car. No wonder the dealership get's an arm and a leg for doing job.

You must check the egr installed along the intake manifold or their must be worn out piston ring of your car engine do replace them because the engine oil comes into the engine cylinder and causes bad emissions.

That isn't where it plugs up. There is a small passagway from the EGR to the throttle body that gets restricted with carbon. This has been common in many cars for year. You may have to disassemble part of the throttle body to access it.

Hummmm, I can get hose off that goes to throttle body from the EGR valve, wonder if I shoot some seafoam up into that area if it would break up carbon??

Hell no! That's likely a coolant hose. This is a small exhaust passage through the intake.
