Hello,

To check the transmission fluid you must do it from under the car you basically push fluid in until the fluid comes out of the fill hole like the old stick shift transmissions. Here are diagrams below to show you. Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed. Cheers,

Two problems... maybe related

1. I am going through transmission fluid. I drove from La Paz Mexico to Washington State and went through 3 quarts of transmission fluid and now it feels like it is low again.
2. When I put the car in drive there is a noise and sometimes it seems to take some time to fully engage into a gear. This especially happens when the transmission level is lower. It seems like there is a fan that is making the noise.

Is there any evidence of a trans fluid leak? Also, it is normal for the delayed shift if the fluid is low.

I do not see any evidence of a transmission fluid leak.

The challenge with the delayed shift only started during my trip from Mexico to Washington.

Okay, don't laugh... When the engine is cold, check coolant in the radiator and make sure the ATF isn't mixing with the coolant. It has to be going somewhere.

Fluid Check Park vehicle on level ground, then apply parking brake. Place gear selector in Park, then start engine and allow to idle for two minutes. With the brake pedal depressed, move gear selector through all gear ranges, ending in Park.

Let engine idle for 3 minutes and then open the overfill screw. Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw-opening. Let the engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32 °C (90 °F) and 57 °C (135 °F) is reached, then close the overfill screw and torque to 38 Nm (28 ft.lbs) CAUTION Do not check fluid level under the following conditions: Immediately after driving at sustained highway speeds. Immediately after driving in heavy traffic during hot weather. Immediately after driving while towing.

Hi shawmichelle, The following reply has a description of what needs to be done. You need to pump the fluid in from the bottom and let it run from the fill plug telling you it is full. Not like the old days of a dip stick. If you require more information, feel free to ask.
