1999 honda civic getting code p1758. Lock up solenoid checks out fine with 15 as the resistance reading. Its some type of wiring or ecu issue. I have checked the wires to the sensor and they are fine. I even removed a ton of the harness tape and allt he wires look fine. wires at the ecu side are attached as well and look fine. Code comes on before i even start the car. If i clear the code with the car in key position 2 the code just comes right back instantly. d4 light blinking and check engine light on.

the fact that the light comes back on is an indicator of an electrical issue. you need to ohm out all the wires to the solenoid, to the ecm and the solenoid itself. its not just as simple as inspecting the wires and connections. it can be monitored by a scan tool to see what is happening.

I followed the chart in my service manual and it said to check for a blown fuse 15 in the underhood box. I tested them all and they are fine. It said to check for resistance and voltage in the d2 and b20 connectors in the ecu harness; i did that and found none. It says if none repair the wire in the d2 terminal, but there IS no wire in my d2 terminal... and none of this issue started until i put in a remanufactured transmission and torque converter. I assume i ripped a wire on disassembly or install. Or could this be the transmission is garbage?

you are on the right track. i think you have an issue with possibly the valve body or the torque converter itself.

get some help with this from a trans shop to verify.

So the ecu can detect an internal fault with the mechanial aspects of the trans and torque converter before even starting the car? This transmission has nothing electrical inside. Its all in the solenoids.Just curious so i can go and take it out on the trans builder.

did he replace the solenoids on the re build???

Ok i solved the p1758 problem, it was a loose wire. No more cel or d4 lights but trans wont move in ANY gear i shift to. The torque converter is not locking up. I can feel its just kinda free floating when selecting it to reverse or drive. So the trans and the torque converter are both new. Both rebuilt. I got the torque converter online from a "50 years int he business ebay shop"and the trans i ordered online from a company in florida. Before i have to pull all this back out im curious as to which component you think is the failing one? Do you know what a hassle its gonna be to drop and re-drop these components mixing and trying different transmissions and converters till i have the correct combo? What is the proper procedure to know if its the transmission or the torque converter? No cel lights no codes.

Get back to the trans repair man. Something had not been done correctly and the guy should be responsible for it.
