1999 GMC Jimmy Ignition key will not turn

I replaced both the battery and alternator this weekend. After doing this the steering wheel is now locked up and the key will not turn in the ignition. The key isn't stuck and I can take it in and out.

Sometimes when you remove battery voltage, it can cause all kinds of issues. I'd check shift interlock system. Check applicable fuses and voltage at the fuse circuits.
