I have a 1997 Ford Thurderbird, 3.8L non-supercharged engine. The car will not start as it is not getting fuel. When the key is turned to the Acc position, you cannot hear the fuel pump spin up or whine as it typically does, which indicates that the fuel pump went out. Is the fuel pump located inside the fuel tank? If so, removal procedures please. Are there other possibilities to look at prior to replacing the fuel pump?
Thank you.

Hello,

Fuel pump should turn on when the key gets turned to the on position.
If it is not coming on that it could be due to a bad relay, wiring issue or a bad pump.
The fuel pump relay is located under the hood on the passenger side (see diagram). It is called the constant control relay module.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. In order to replace the pump, the fuel tank needs to be removed.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
