shifter switch or solenoid?

i have a 99 ford taurus sohc 3.0, i have already put a starter on but im pretty sure the shifter on the transmission came loose somehow. there is an electrical switch or solenoid right on top that has 2 bolts i have them out but it only turns and will not come off. do i need a special puller to get it out? im scared to break it, it is only plastic.

What exactly is the problem here? won't crank over/nothing when key is turn to cranking position?

no it wont turn over at all, the shifter where the cable hooks up on the tranny was loose and just moving when we tried to shift it so i manually moved the shifter back into park and it still would not turn over, battery's fine, and i put a starter on it before i noticed the loose shifter
