Timing chain and tensioner replacement?

There are 3 special tools required to do the chain replacement, see pic for part No and warnings. The guides below show how to replace the timing chain tensioner and timing cover. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Normally dealer only, but you can try specialist auto tools.

This truck has overhead cams and can they be adjusted or is there an automatic tenchner?

There is no provision to manually adjust the chain tension, there is a timing chain tensioner fitted to the system.

I have every thing torn down to the timing chain cover but I can not seem to get the harmonic balancer off , got a puller but am i suppose to take the bolt off the crankshaft to get the balancer off ?

You have to remove center bolt and use the puller to remove the harmonic

We need to find out the locations of the bolts for the cover because the vehicle broke down and we have no way of figuring out where to place them so please.. help?

Are you sure the timing chain is the problem? Also, which V8 do you have? Also, once you remove the fan, and the waterpump, you will see the timing chain cover. THe bolts will go around the the cover.

Let me know what happened. Maybe it is something other than the chain.

taking off the water pump, the lower bolt on the left (passenger) side broke about half an inch deep in the timing chain cover. I am trying to get the timing chain cover off so I can devise a way to get the remainder of the bolt out. All bolts out of the timing chain cover but will not budge to that side, is the broken bolt threaded into the cover and holding it on or are the threads just in the block? Do you have any suggestions for removing the bolt without taking the timing chain cover off? any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you removed the oil pan bolts at the front of the pan and it will not move, then it sounds like the bolt broke because it is frozen in the housing not letting it release.

I would get some Freeze Off and spray it in there and see if it will help devolve the rust and let the housing release.

it back fire i can be driving and it shuts off acts like it wants too start but want has a new fuil pump new dist new wires new plugs and it would knck real hard but when it start it smooth out know knocking but want start at all now help!

You need to removing the timing chain cover to check if the chain has jumped or you can check if the #1 cylinder is at top dead center when the timing marks are on TDC at the harmonic balancer. If it doesn't start at all now, check to make sure it is getting spark and fuel to the engine. See if it will start with starting fluid. If it does, it is fuel related. If it fails to start with starting fluid, it usually is ignition related unless there is low compression or it is out of time.
