So my 99 explorer limited calls for 255/70/16 tires. They are very expensive and hard to find at a good price. Curious which size would be the best replacement 245/75/16,265/70/16, or 265/75/16. Any I put would be greatly appreciated

We only recommend direct fit repairs. However, the OEM size tire is one of the cheaper ones available. Where all have you checked for tires?

I've searches many different places. And new they are all roughly the same price but I've got. 15 month old and a 6 year old so I can't really swing $500 for brand new. And to find that size used in ATLEAST 6/32nd is hard to find I guess they didn't put the 255/70/16 on many vehicles.

THIS IS THE ROUTE I TAKE ANYMORE FOR BOTH OF MY JEEPS, WIFES FORD ESCAPE, AND OUR SPARE, A '95 NEON

ONE JEEP USING P235/75/15s THE OTHER JEEP USING 700 X 16s

MY BEST-US BUDDY HAS A MANUAL TIRE CHANGER AND A BUBBLE BALANCER

SO IT COSTS ME BASICALLY NUTHIN' TO PUT 'EM ON (SOMETIMES STEMS OR A INNER TUBE)

THERE ARE THEM WAY OUT THERE RURAL SERVICE STATIONS THAT'LL MOUNT AND BALANCE A TIRE FOR $5-$10! YOU JUST GOTTA DO A LITTLE "LOCAL RESEARCHING"!

"MR. JEEPS" TIRES, IN THE PICS BELOW (TAKEN IN JULY 2010), I GOT THIS SET OF FOUR, BRAND NEW AT A REAL STEAL AND NO SHIPPING!

THE LAST PIC WAS TAKEN A WEEK OR SO AGO, WHEN I WAS PAINTING MY FENDER FLARESI DRIVE HIM EVERY DAY, STILL HAVE THE SAME SET OF TIRES, WITH LOTS OF TREAD! (I WILL CLEAN THEM AND THE RIMS SOON)

I THINK THE WHOLE SET WAS $288

HERE'S THE BEST PLACE TO SHOP!

Normally I don't do this. I hope the owner's of the site don't get mad. I don't know where you are located, but I have a good friend near Pittsburgh Pa that is a tire wholesaler. He sells around 1000 tires a day. If you want, I can see what he would sell a set of new ones to you for. The bad part is going to be the shipping, but if I can get the tires cheap enough, it may benefit you. He has a website as well, but I have known him all my life. He will treat me the best he can and they would be shipped from him to you. Would you like me to check? Also, am I correct that the 255/70R16 is the size you need? I can't get the prices until Monday, but if you want me to, I am guessing they should be between 60 and 80 each.

Let me know. I can check and then give you his phone # if you want. I will tell him to expect your call. Just let me know. I understand what it is to save a buck. By the way, tire prices are expected to increase around 30 percent due to new tariffs on importing tires from China. The funny thing is, I used to buy cars with good tires on them for less than the tires costs today. lol
