1999 Ford Expedition Wheel studs

I got the wheel studs out but the new ones are too long to put in between the back plate and the hub wheel. Can the axle extend a little? If so how is it done.

No, the axle isn't moving. Sometimes if you grind a flat side to the head of it, you can sip it in. Otherwise the differential has to come apart.
