1999 Ford Expedition turn signals won't flash

I replaced the standard 3157 bulb with a led bulb. I experienced hyper flash so I added a 50W 6ohm resistor . That stopped the hyper flash and everything worked fine. A little while later the flashers didn't work. The brake lights and taillights still work, though. Could it be the flasher unit?

take the resistor out first that may be the problem. otherwise check the flasher. normally led bulbs work ok
