I have a 1999 Crown Vic with 13K miles on it and no previous transmission problems. I was pulling an empty 1600 LB (manufacture wt.) travel trailer and parked it on a small incline. I forgot to put on the parking break but did leave the transmission in the Park position. I got in to move the car an hour later and couldn't get it out of Park. I unhitched the trailer to remove that drag on the transmission but it was still a no-go. The steering wheel freely moves while the engine is on but it stubbornly won't shift out of park. Is there a manual disconnect somewhere to reset the transmission or something that I can do?

Are your brake lights working? if not check/test brake switch If so try the override as per owner's manual still won't move-have the shift interlock control system checked- could be the shiftlock solenoid not getting power or defective

Followup Question: Does the transmission have a manual override that can be pushed to allow the shifter to go from Park into gear? If so, where is it? I have seen them in other cars but can't see anything about it in the owner's manual.
With many thanks,

There is no manual override. Just place the key in the unlock position and place the car in neutral. Strart the car and place in gear.
