The cast aluminum oil pan has a hairline crack and needs to be repaired or replaced; I've found a couple in a nearby junkyard but both had a lot of oil on them, which makes me wonder about their soundness.
How big of a job is this? I understand I have to raise the whole car, attach some kind of ground-based engine holder to the engine, disconnect the engine bolts and then lower the car body - all to suspend the engine 4-5" up from its normal position in the engine bay, to get the oil pan clear. Can you confirm this and generally advise on this job, especially the sequence of steps to be employed?
I have already have a couple of oil pan gaskets.
