I Have a 1999 dodge cummins 5.9 liter 215,000 miles. I was driving it one day and it started running like it wasnt getting any fuel. I stopped and drained the water out of the filter and the truck ran fine the rest of the day. The next day I was driving to work and my truck started running like it wasnt getting fuel again and then it suddenly died. I traced my fuel from my filter all the way to my injectors and bled all of them. i heard there was a cyliniod that controlled my fuel system if you thought it was that or if you thought it was the fuel injector pump. also how do i test the injector pump?

For lack of a better answer, my friend ran into a similar problem caused by the lift pump. That's the small mechanical pump on the driver's side of the engine that brings the fuel from the tank to the injector pump. Apparently the engine will run without it but if not taken are of soon it will lead to damage to the injector pump. In his case the injector pump went out causing a no-start condition, and they found the bad lift pump while replacing the injector pump.
