turn signals not working?

Suspect the flasher unit. It's no longer the common sense, reliable three-dollar flasher. It's now a very expensive electronic module. Sorry I can't remember exactly where it's located but if the hazard flashers still work, you can follow the clicking noise to the unit. On vehicles where that flasher is plugged in and sitting sideways, its weight often pulls it partially out of the socket. Simply reseating it will get it working again.

I have a 99 dodge dakota 5.2L 318, and my turn signals went out. We checked all fuses and even replaced the blinker box. I am debating on if replacing the turn signal switch could fix the problem. The turn signal switch has my wiper controls on it as well, and they work but not my blinkers or hazards work. Should buying a new switch fix my problem or should I take it to someone who can do more?

Did you use a voltage tester at the applicable fuse/s? The hazzard fuse circuit, should be hot all the time. The one for your turn signal should go hot when you turn on the key. Note diagram below.

If that checks out, probably the multifunction switch,but, If you want to get under the dash and check wiring circuits for voltage, we can do that, also.

my turn signals were working fine, until suddenly, they did not work and a sound of a motor or vibration came from what seems to be the steering column. how can i fix this, i've checked the fuses and unless i missed one, the fuses are fine.

do the hazard lights work? if they do then the turn signal switch is most likely at fault. if the hazards do not work either than the combination flasher may be faulty.

My turn signals on my 96 dakota randomly stopped working. They turn on but do not flash The hazards flash, turn signals dont. I have ALREADY REPLACED turn signal relay, hazard relay, fuses and bulbs... HELP PLEASE

Have you replaced the flasher itself?

ever since i have had my truck there has been a dead short or something in the wires on the inside of truck i think its a ground wire i cant figure it out. My radio also quit working before it would come off and on now it just completely stopped working if you turn the liights on or the turn signals theres a static noise that clicks its loud so if you clould help me let me know thanks

Take a 12 volt test light and disconnect your negative connector on the battery. Connect one end on to the cable and touch the other end to your battery post if you have a light then you have a dead short. Just pull out the fuses in the fuse panel one at a time check as stated above each time. I would write down each fuse as I pulled it. When you pull one and the light goes out you will know which circuit the short is on.

have brake lights but no tail or turn signal . checked for bad ground couldnt see anything wrong. laid off work and cant donate thats why im tryn to fix my self

Under the bed (rear) I think driver's side is a plug that runs power to all lights. Make sure it isn't loose or damaged. Also, check to see if you are getting power to that point.

left turn signal will not flash with the headlights on

What you should find is the problem occurs with just the tail lights turned on. That is due to a bad ground wire. You can prove this by turning on just the tail / running lights, then the left signal, then remove the signal bulb from the other side. If the left bulb goes out when the right one is removed, the left one has a break in the ground wire. With the running lights off, current goes through the left signal bulb, can't find a path to ground to complete the circuit so it looks for an alternate path. That is to double-back through the tail light filament in the same bulb, then go over to the tail light on the other side, through it, then to ground. Since three filaments are in the circuit now, there's three times the resistance, which means one third the normal current flow, and that's not enough current to heat up the heating element inside the flasher assembly, so it either flashes real slowly or not at all.

To know if the problem is in front or in back, if the bad ground is for a front bulb, the turn indicator on the dash will light up dimly too.

Thanks Guys. This pointed me in the right direction. I found a short in my trailer plug in.

I have no blinkers or windshield wipers on my truck and no power to my radio. I have replaced the ignition switch in the steering column and all blown fuses, also I check for frayed or split wires and found none

I'd have to check voltage to and from the ignition switch. Applicable fuses, did you check for voltage, use a voltage tester. Some won't go hot till you turn on the key. Let us know what you find?

Having problems with the passenger side turn signal. Will not flash. Left side is fine and will flash when using hazard lights.

Will turn on manually with headlights on, headlights off, but will not manually flash when brake pedal is depressed.

Have changed the bulb.

Hi, my info shows the turn and brake use the same bulb filament, lower rear, not at the same time. Brown wire with lite green tracer is voltage for turn. Comes from the multifunction switch. Tracing the wire toward the switch, the wiring color changes to brown/yellow. There may be a multiwire connector under the dash close to steering column, for circuits going to and from the column. You may be able to check brown and yellow wire there for voltage. All repair info says to disarm air-bag, where applicable, when working around the column.
