I just changed the water pump and timing belt on 1999 caravan 2.4 .started it up but it sounds like it is out of time how do i set the timing now that it is all back together.

Had to replace the water pump and timing belt but when i started it sounds like it is out of time how do adjust the timing now 1999 caravan 2.4L

Timing is controlled the the computer and is not adjustable. If you have a coil pack and not a distributor , this is definitely the case. Otherwise only older models with a distributor have any timing adjustment.

If your having trouble and it sounds like the timing is off, there are some things that can happen when replacing the timing belt. First, the most common problem is the mis-alignment of the sprockets in relation to the belt and/or crank.

The other problem is that instructions do not suggest that the timing belt/crank be turned about 6 times and the timing marks for the cam sprockets and crank re-checked. This will often show that the alignment may be off by a tooth.

If you had timing issues before the timing belt service, the crankshaft/camshaft position sensors are about the only other thing that can affect the timing being incorrect.
